There are Status Messages recorded for almost all parts of Configuration Manager. While they are not easily accessible through the Configuration Manager console, they can be quickly retrieved with Recast RCT Enterprise. Status Messages are the universal means for components to communicate information about their health to the System Center Configuration Manager administrator. Each Configuration Manager component has a set of predefined status messages assigned to it.
Available for: Package Deployments
- Shows when deployment is received, started, and completed for each computer
Task Sequence Deployments
- Shows live information for every step of the task sequence running on each computer
The newer deployments (applications, baselines, software update groups) only give state information, not status information, so detailed information is not available.
Find deployment Status Messages by right clicking on deployments on the Monitoring node, the deployment tab of the object and the deployment tab of the collection.
Shows content and configuration messages related to the selected distribution point. PXE messages are not shown in this view.
Right click on Distribution Points on the Administration node, and under Distribution Point Configuration Status on the Monitoring node to access Distribution Point Status Messages.
Shows information for each PXE boot on selected Distribution Point. You will see which boot image was given to the computer, why it was given (which deployment determined it), and the MAC address of the computer.
Find PXE Status Messages by right clicking on Distribution Points on the Administration node, and under Distribution Point Configuration Status on the Monitoring node.
Shows all content status messages for the selected item. You'll see when it starts transferring to each distribution point and if it was successful or not.
Right click on content on the Monitoring tab, on each item with content (applications, packages, deployment packages, boot images, etc...), and Task Sequence reference to find Content Status Messages.
Provides information on removed items - accesed in these nodes:
Shows when the collection properties are modified, which includes rule changes. This also shows who made the change.
Find Collection Status Messages by right clicking on User and Device collections.
Shows all things the user has done in Configuration Manager.
Right click on the Users node to access User Status Messages.
Shows a history of who modified the client settings.
Find Client Setting Status Messages by right clicking in Administration under Client Settings.
Shows status messages related to the device. This could include package and task sequence progress, PXE messages on DPs, and anything else registered to that device.
Right click on a device to access Device Status Messages.
Shows all status messages relating to offline servicing, including start / stop and what updates are being applied.
Find Offline Servicing Status Messages by right clicking on an image.
Gives start and stop times of WSUS Synchronization.
Right click on the All Software Updates node to access WSUS Sync Manager Status Messages.
Shows change status messages for the selected software update group. This will also show when a user adds something to the software update group, but will not show when an ADR adds something to a software update group.
Find Software Update Group Status Messages by right clicking on a software update group.
Shows the status of the AD user discovery component, including the number of new users it finds.
Right click on the Users node and under Discovery Methods -> Active Directory User Discovery to access Active Directory User Discovery Status Messages.
